Other Equipment

Useful accessories include a telescoping landing net that, when fully extended, is at least 8 feet long. A lawn chair or 5-gallon pail adds a touch of comfort. Dress warmly: Air temperatures on the structures may be 10 to 20 degrees colder than on land, especially with an on-shore wind. In spring and fall, wear long underwear, a snowmobile suit, woolen ski cap, and warm boots. Bring gloves and a facemask if the weather is freezing and some raingear if the skies look threatening. Use a backpack or pull cart to haul clothing, a Thermos of hot beverage, food, and fishing gear.
