Hist\u00f3ricamente, este pez de aguas profundas fue el principal pez forrajero en la cadena alimentaria de los Grandes Lagos y sostuvo pesquer\u00edas comerciales desde el lago Michigan hasta el lago Ontario. El objetivo principal del estudio era emplear m\u00e9todos gen\u00f3micos para mejorar la comprensi\u00f3n de la variaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica entre las formas de cisco.
