Sin embargo, se ha estimado que las poblaciones est\u00e1n en un uno por ciento de los niveles hist\u00f3ricos debido a m\u00faltiples razones causadas por el hombre, como la sobrepesca, la p\u00e9rdida o degradaci\u00f3n del h\u00e1bitat y las barreras para un h\u00e1bitat adecuado debido a las represas. En consecuencia, el esturi\u00f3n de lago est\u00e1 clasificado como en peligro o amenazado en 19 estados de EE. UU. y como amenazado en Canad\u00e1. La gen\u00f3mica de la conservaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 demostrando ser una herramienta valiosa para los investigadores y los administradores pesqueros interesados en gestionar y regular adecuadamente la pesca del esturi\u00f3n de lago en los Grandes Lagos. Esta edici\u00f3n de <em>Notas de investigaci\u00f3n<\/em> Destaca las contribuciones de la investigaci\u00f3n sobre el esturi\u00f3n de lago apoyada por el Great Lakes Fishery Trust.<\/p>\n<p>De 2015 a 2019, un equipo de investigaci\u00f3n dirigido por la Dra. Amy Welsh de la Universidad de Virginia Occidental estudi\u00f3 la diversidad gen\u00e9tica adaptativa de 16 poblaciones de esturi\u00f3n de lago en desove. La Dra. Welsh, junto con Eric Normandeau y Louis Bernatchez, ambos de la Universidad Laval, analizaron las variaciones gen\u00e9ticas de estas poblaciones utilizando polimorfismos de un solo nucle\u00f3tido (SNP) que inclu\u00edan variaci\u00f3n neutra y adaptativa. Los SNP de un genoma se pueden estudiar para determinar si influyen en la salud, la enfermedad y otros rasgos y de qu\u00e9 manera (NHGRI 2022). <\/p><span class=\"wrap\"><span>Instituto Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n del Genoma Humano (NHGRI)<\/span><span class=\"title\">Glosario parlante de t\u00e9rminos gen\u00f3micos y gen\u00e9ticos<\/span><\/span><\/div><\/blockquote>\r\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element  vc_custom_1668716583101\" >\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t<h3>Principales hallazgos<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n descubri\u00f3 que los datos de SNP proporcionaban una resoluci\u00f3n mucho mayor y un mayor poder de prueba de asignaci\u00f3n que los microsat\u00e9lites utilizados en algunas investigaciones gen\u00e9ticas.<\/li>\n<li>El equipo propuso siete unidades de gesti\u00f3n refinadas en los Grandes Lagos que utilizan datos de SNP sobre la ubicaci\u00f3n de desove y la geograf\u00eda para informar la selecci\u00f3n de la poblaci\u00f3n para la repoblaci\u00f3n por parte de los administradores pesqueros.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Resultados significativos para la investigaci\u00f3n sobre el esturi\u00f3n de lago<\/h3>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n apoyada por GLFT est\u00e1 impulsando el conocimiento cient\u00edfico de la ecolog\u00eda del esturi\u00f3n de lago y el papel de la gen\u00f3mica en la conservaci\u00f3n. Los an\u00e1lisis anteriores de la estructura de la poblaci\u00f3n del esturi\u00f3n de lago se basaron en datos gen\u00e9ticos neutrales, que rastrean los roles de la migraci\u00f3n y la deriva gen\u00e9tica para determinar la estructura de la poblaci\u00f3n. El equipo del Dr. Welsh mejor\u00f3 la comprensi\u00f3n de c\u00f3mo se distribuye la variaci\u00f3n adaptativa. Adem\u00e1s, las unidades de gesti\u00f3n refinadas propuestas por el equipo, si se implementan, pueden dar como resultado la conservaci\u00f3n del potencial adaptativo de las poblaciones de esturi\u00f3n de lago, un objetivo principal de la gen\u00e9tica de la conservaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3>Investigaci\u00f3n derivada<\/h3>\n<p>El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n colabor\u00f3 con otro investigador apoyado por GLFT, el Dr. Wesley Larson, que anteriormente trabajaba en la Universidad de Wisconsin-Stevens Point y ahora trabaja en la Administraci\u00f3n Nacional Oce\u00e1nica y Atmosf\u00e9rica (NOAA), y desarroll\u00f3 un panel compuesto por 258 SNP para futuras pruebas de asignaci\u00f3n y an\u00e1lisis de paternidad utilizando datos generados a partir de este proyecto.
