La gestion efficace des poissons n\u00e9cessite de comprendre la proportion de poissons provenant d&#039;\u00e9closeries ou de la nature, en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, et de quelle \u00e9closerie et de quel affluent de rivi\u00e8re, en particulier. Les populations de truites arc-en-ciel du lac Michigan sont actuellement soutenues par un important repeuplement provenant de six \u00e9closeries et par une reproduction naturelle provenant de plus de 40 affluents de rivi\u00e8re. Les recherches financ\u00e9es par le Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT) font progresser l&#039;utilisation de la chimie des otolithes pour identifier l&#039;origine des truites arc-en-ciel adultes (c&#039;est-\u00e0-dire leur origine natale) et la fa\u00e7on dont les poissons se m\u00e9langent dans les eaux libres du lac Michigan.<\/p>\n<h2>Ce que les signatures chimiques des otolithes peuvent r\u00e9v\u00e9ler<\/h2>\n<p>De 2018 \u00e0 2022, une \u00e9quipe dirig\u00e9e par le chercheur principal Kevin Pangle, professeur adjoint de biologie \u00e0 la Central Michigan University (CMU), a men\u00e9 des recherches pour \u00e9valuer les contributions relatives de diff\u00e9rentes sources \u00e0 la p\u00eache au saumon arc-en-ciel du lac Michigan et la mani\u00e8re dont ces contributions varient g\u00e9ographiquement et selon les saisons et les ann\u00e9es. Jory Jonas, du Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Charlevoix Fisheries Research Station, Charles Bronte et Matthew Kornis, du US Fish and Wildlife Service, Green Bay Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, ainsi que les assistants dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s des d\u00e9partements de biologie et de sciences de la terre et de l&#039;atmosph\u00e8re de la CMU, Ben Breaker, Carson Prichard et John Whitinger, ont collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 ces recherches avec Pangle.<\/p>\n<p>Les truites arc-en-ciel adultes du lac Michigan proviennent de plusieurs endroits le long des rivi\u00e8res tributaires et de six \u00e9closeries du Michigan et du Wisconsin qui approvisionnent la p\u00eacherie. Les conditions de ces zones sources ont un impact sur la sant\u00e9 et la viabilit\u00e9 des populations de truites arc-en-ciel, mais les contributions sp\u00e9cifiques \u00e0 chaque site de ces sources ne sont pas bien comprises. L&#039;\u00e9quipe a utilis\u00e9 la chimie des otolithes pour identifier les origines natales des truites arc-en-ciel adultes r\u00e9colt\u00e9es, car les calculs de l&#039;oreille interne utilis\u00e9s pour l&#039;audition et l&#039;\u00e9quilibre contiennent des signatures chimiques qui permettent aux chercheurs d&#039;identifier les origines d&#039;un poisson, m\u00eame jusqu&#039;\u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re dans laquelle il a fray\u00e9. Ce travail s&#039;appuie sur les r\u00e9sultats d&#039;un pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent projet parrain\u00e9 par GLFT qui a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les signatures chimiques des otolithes chez les saumons juv\u00e9niles r\u00e9v\u00e8lent une diff\u00e9renciation significative selon les affluents. La cartographie compl\u00e8te des affluents du lac Michigan du projet pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent, y compris tous les cours d&#039;eau identifi\u00e9s comme contribuant grandement \u00e0 la production de saumon sauvage, a \u00e9clair\u00e9 ce projet.<\/p>\n<h2>Objectifs de la recherche sur le lac Michigan<\/h2>\n<p>Les objectifs sp\u00e9cifiques de l&#039;\u00e9tude \u00e9taient de 1) optimiser et valider l&#039;application de la microchimie des otolithes aux truites arc-en-ciel adultes r\u00e9colt\u00e9es par les p\u00eacheurs \u00e0 la ligne dans le lac Michigan, 2) quantifier les contributions relatives des truites arc-en-ciel d&#039;origine sauvage et d&#039;\u00e9closerie, 3) comparer les contributions des \u00e9closeries sp\u00e9cifiques \u00e0 la source \u00e0 celles attendues compte tenu des taux de stockage, 4) examiner le degr\u00e9 de mouvement et de m\u00e9lange des truites arc-en-ciel d&#039;origine sauvage et d&#039;\u00e9closerie dans le lac Michigan, et 5) identifier les principaux producteurs de poissons d&#039;origine sauvage et d&#039;\u00e9closerie.<\/p>\n<p>La m\u00e9thode et l\u2019analyse ont n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 la collecte de truites arc-en-ciel adultes dans les ports de l\u2019Indiana, de l\u2019Illinois, du Michigan et du Wisconsin tout au long de la fin du printemps, de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 et du d\u00e9but de l\u2019automne en 2016, 2017 et 2018. Les poissons de l\u2019\u00e9tude ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9colt\u00e9s par des p\u00eacheurs r\u00e9cr\u00e9atifs (n = 1\u00a0415). L\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche a \u00e9talonn\u00e9 ses m\u00e9thodes en comparant son approche \u00e0 celle des adultes munis d\u2019un filin. Leur approche a permis de classer correctement 88 % des poissons.<\/p>\n<h2>Les r\u00e9sultats r\u00e9v\u00e8lent les cycles de vie de la truite arc-en-ciel dans les \u00e9closeries et les rivi\u00e8res<\/h2>\n<p>Les principales conclusions de la recherche sont les suivantes :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parmi toutes les ann\u00e9es incluses dans l\u2019\u00e9tude, 59 pour cent des poissons ont \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9s comme provenant d\u2019\u00e9closerie.<\/li>\n<li>Parmi toutes les ann\u00e9es incluses dans l\u2019\u00e9tude, 41 pour cent des poissons ont \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9s comme produits naturellement.<\/li>\n<li>Au cours de toutes les ann\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e9tude, la majorit\u00e9 des poissons provenant d\u2019\u00e9closerie ont \u00e9t\u00e9 attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9closerie de poissons de l\u2019\u00c9tat de Wolf Lake (WLSFH), soit entre 56 et 77 pour cent de tous les poissons d\u2019\u00e9closerie.<\/li>\n<li>Le WLSFH et le Thompson State Fish Hatchery repr\u00e9sentaient en moyenne 88 pour cent de tous les poissons provenant des \u00e9closeries.<\/li>\n<li>Les sites fluviaux du nord de la p\u00e9ninsule inf\u00e9rieure du Michigan repr\u00e9sentaient 65 pour cent des poissons d&#039;origine sauvage au cours de toutes les ann\u00e9es de l&#039;\u00e9tude.<\/li>\n<li>Les bassins versants des rivi\u00e8res Little Manistee et Pere Marquette repr\u00e9sentaient en moyenne 44 pour cent de tous les poissons d&#039;origine sauvage.<\/li>\n<li>La composition des stocks de poissons d&#039;origine sauvage \u00e9tait uniforme dans tous les districts statistiques de l&#039;\u00e9tude dans le lac Michigan. La composition des stocks de poissons d&#039;origine \u00e9closerie \u00e9tait uniforme, sauf en 2016.<\/li>\n<li>On observe un degr\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9 de mouvement et de m\u00e9lange des stocks d&#039;\u00e9closerie et des stocks sauvages.<\/li>\n<li>Malgr\u00e9 de nombreuses sources potentielles de production de truite arc-en-ciel d\u2019origine sauvage et d\u2019\u00e9closerie, les poissons provenant de quelques sources constituaient l\u2019essentiel de la p\u00eache.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cette recherche am\u00e9liore la compr\u00e9hension de la structure du stock de truite arc-en-ciel adulte et des sch\u00e9mas de m\u00e9lange dans le lac Michigan et d\u00e9montre que la chimie des otolithes peut \u00eatre un outil utile pour d\u00e9crire la composition du stock de poissons.
